Ethics statement

I align my business closely with my own values and I endeavour to conduct my work in a fair, ethical and sustainable way.

ethical sourcing

  • I use suppliers who have ethical working practices and social responsibility policies (for example A.E. Wards and Cookson Gold)

  • I use ethically and sustainably sourced metals and gemstones

environment

  • I use recycled and recyclable materials whenever possible

  • I have committed to a ‘paper-free office’ by 2022

customers and clients

  • I aim to provide customers and clients excellent experiences and products, and charge a fair price

  • I ensure client and customer confidentiality (especially important in a close-knit community like Shetland)

  • I try to respond to enquiries in a timely fashion, although as a Sole Trader this is a challenge!

Fair pay and tax

  • I pay staff above the Living Wage and provide paid training and continuing professional development opportunities

  • I pay freelancers and suppliers fairly and on time

  • I pay tax in full and on time, including cash sales

Professional codes of practice

I am committed to the following codes of conduct and practice:

  • National Association of Jewellers - Every NAJ retailer, designer, supplier, manufacturer, valuer and associate abides by the Association's Code of Conduct, based on honesty, integrity and professionalism.

  • Christian Aid SALT Core Pledge - a recognition of core challenges and opportunities that we as Salt members recognise future-fit business leadership require, both internal and external, in addressing the core areas of accountability to all people in communities and societies where we serve as businesses, while also responding to the challenges of nature and climate in terms of the ecological challenges.

  • Good Business Charter - Accreditation in recognition of responsible business practices. It measures behaviour over 10 components: real living wage, fairer hours and contracts, employee well-being, employee representation, diversity and inclusion, environmental responsibility, paying fair tax, commitment to customers, ethical sourcing, and prompt payment.

  • Prompt Payment Code - Voluntary code of practice for businesses, administered by the Office of the Small Business Commissioner on behalf of Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy. It sets standards for payment practices between organisations and their suppliers.
