Oppenwark ear jackets
Oppenwark ear jackets
Delicate strength. Inspired by Shetland fine lace hand knitting and the women who created it, the Oppenwark ear jackets combine Shetland stones and the peaked detail of lace.
The jacket connects to the back of the stud behind the ear and curves forward to hang beautifully below the lobe. The ear jackets and studs can be bought and worn individually or as a set.
My Oppenwark Ear Jackets combine my love of Shetland’s cultural history, through the lace inspired pattern of the ear jackets, with my love of Shetland’s natural history, geology and landscape through the use of Shetland sourced stones.

Shetland stones
Scapolite is an opaque durable stone found near the village of Skeld on the west side of Shetland. The name is derived from Greek ‘skapos’, which means ‘stem’, because of the stone’s long columnar formation.
Riebeckite felsite is a hard and distinctive blue-gray rock from the Northmavine region of north mainland Shetland. Implements made from this material were highly prized and central to life in Neolithic Shetland.
Antigorite Serpentine is a mottled green stone from Unst, Britain’s most northerly island. The name comes from the Latin ‘serpentinus’ , which means ‘serpent rock’, because of the greenish colour and smooth or scaly appearance.
What Are Ear Jackets?
Ear jackets are a type of earring that consists of two parts: a stud that goes through the earlobe and an ornamental ‘jacket’ piece that attaches from behind the earlobe. This gives the visual effect of the jacket being suspended below the earlobe. Ear jackets are a stunning way to add a modern edge to your jewellery collection
While ear jackets may seem like a modern invention, their roots can be traced back to ancient jewellery designs. Historical records show that similar multi-part earrings were worn by cultures around the world, often as symbols of status. The contemporary resurgence began in the early 2010s, when fashion-forward designers reimagined these historical designs with a modern twist.
How to Wear Ear Jackets
Wondering how to incorporate ear jackets into your jewellery collection? Here are some tips to help you embrace them with confidence:
Choose Your Style
Ear jackets come in a variety of designs, from minimalist and geometric shapes to intricate and embellished patterns. My collections include 2 designs - the Oppenwark Ear Jackets (above) and the Wolf Carnassial Ear Jackets. Both designs have bold jacket pieces and are available with or without matching studs.
Mix and Match
One of the best features of ear jackets is their versatility. You can mix and match different studs and jackets to create a personalised look which can be a great way to give a fresh new look to your favourite studs. Experiment with combining different metals, shapes, and sizes to find a combination that speaks to your unique style.
