Wings ring holder necklace
Wings ring holder necklace
Rise up on wings like eagles - wear a reminder of hope and renewed strength with this sterling silver ring holder necklace beautifully carved with feather detail.
Wear your ring on the pendant and keep it safe when you can’t wear it on your fingers.
Handmade in Shetland.
The original Wings Ringholder Necklace pendant section was first hand carved in wax in three parts - the body and wings - to produce the feather detail from which casting moulds were made. Each part is then individually cast in silver, gold or rose gold before being hand finished and polished, then sent to Edinburgh for Hallmarking.
The design allows the chain to dynamically slide through the 3 moving pieces ensuring the pendant and ring remain centered and safe.
The pendant measures approx 40mm wide wing tip to wing tip and 45mm long from wing tip to tail feathers. The spiga chain measures 18" long with an adjuster ring at 16”.
The Oppenwark Collection also features a ring holder necklace.

The History of Ring Holder Necklaces: A Journey of Practical Elegance
More than just an accessory; they embody a rich history that combines practicality and elegance, and have evolved to meet the changing needs and tastes of society.
Ancient Beginnings
The concept of practical jewellery dates back to ancient civilizations. The Egyptians and Romans crafted jewellery that was both decorative and functional. Amulets and talismans worn around the neck served protective and symbolic purposes, laying the foundation for future multifunctional jewellery designs.
My Wings Ring Holder Necklace is inspired by these early pieces - the symbolism of the wing motif together with the design requirements of securely embracing a ring.
Mediaeval and Renaissance Innovations
In mediaeval Europe, the chatelaine emerged as a precursor to modern functional necklaces. These decorative clasps, worn at the waist with chains suspended from it, held essential household tools and personal items. While not specifically designed for rings, chatelaines demonstrated the value of combining utility with style.
Victorian Era to Early 20th Century
The Victorian era saw significant advancements in jewellery design, driven by the increasing roles of women in professional and social spheres. As women began to engage more outside the home, they needed jewellery that could accommodate their active lifestyles. Early ring holder necklaces appeared during this period, featuring lockets or compartments to safely store rings while maintaining a fashionable appearance.
Modern Adaptations
Today, ring holder necklaces are a blend of historical influence and modern design. They range from minimalist styles or simple shapes such as horseshoes or wishbones, through to elaborate pieces adorned with gemstones.
My Wings Ring Holder Necklace (above) and Oppenwark Ring Holder Necklace designs encapsulate the stories and symbolism from their respective collections. They are sculpted from wax, cast in silver, gold or rose gold, and are designed to inspire confidence in their construction and the safety of your precious ring.
Contemporary Appeal
Ring holder necklaces are especially popular among those who frequently use their hands, such as healthcare professionals, chefs, and artists. These necklaces provide a secure and elegant solution for keeping rings safe during various activities. The rise of multifunctional fashion and active lifestyles has further boosted their appeal, as people seek accessories that can seamlessly transition from work to leisure.
